BACKGROUND.
Since the NoVon hardware device does not feature a built-in display, the mobile app serves as the primary user interface for controlling the product while it is worn on the chest. Through the app, users can adjust key settings such as pressure, power, and timer. The app supports simultaneous control of up to two connected devices and includes additional functionalities such as usage log review and correction, battery status monitoring, and device connection management.
MY ROLE.
UI Designer: I was responsible for redesigning the user interface and visual elements of the mobile app that accompanies the noVon nipple care device—a product designed for daily use, offering power control, pressure management, and synchronized device connectivity via the app. As the UI designer, my goal was to create an intuitive and visually appealing interface that enhances usability while aligning with the product’s purpose and user needs.
THE GOAL
Intuitive Remote Control Interface
The goal of this redesign project was to create an intuitive and visually cohesive user interface that helps users feel a sense of familiarity with the noVon hardware device. By incorporating colors, shapes, and components inspired by the physical product, the UI strengthens the connection between the app and the device. The redesign addressed key usability issues in the initial version, which lacked a deep understanding of how users interact with the hardware and app simultaneously. The new design enhances usability and ensures a more seamless, user-centered experience.
PROCESS
Style Guide
For the redesign project, I updated the existing style guide that I had originally created during the initial design phase. The noVon style guide had been approved by the head office and outlined the visual and UI components of the app based on the established design concept. Because the guide was comprehensive and well-structured, it became a valuable resource during the hand-off process with developers. As a result, there was no need to create a new style guide for the redesign.

OUTPUT
The main screen layout was designed to visually reflect the hardware device while optimizing for mobile usability. I incorporated functions that are exclusive to the mobile app, enhancing the user experience. For instance, the physical power button on the hardware was reinterpreted as a Start/Pause toggle switch within the app and positioned at the top of the screen for easy access. Client can explore detailed screen interactions through the working prototype.
MAIN PAGE

DEVICE CONNECTIVITY
Improvment
Given the high price point of the noVon device, most users typically operate just one unit. As such, the default main screen displays the interface for a single device. When a second device is connected, an additional control area on the right side is activated. If the connection to a paired device is lost, the app allows users to easily reconnect it without disrupting their session.
MORE FEATURES
Log History
On the Log page, users can view their usage records, including both monthly summaries and daily usage time. The app also includes usage limit guidance to promote safe usage practices. Users have the ability to manage their logs by adding, editing, or deleting entries, making the feature both informative and interactive.
Icons
Additional app functionalities are housed under the More section. I designed custom icons for each feature to enhance visual clarity and help users quickly identify the purpose of each option.
FINAL
The noVon project came with a fair share of challenges and learning moments. I initially approached User Interface design from a purely visual perspective, underestimating the importance of usability and the product’s unique characteristics.
However, through gaining a deeper understanding of the product and discussions with the client, I made progress in focusing on usability, user needs, and product alignment. It reflects my growth as a designer and my commitment to continuous improvement.
